Bilingual all-day primary school

Practical multilingualism

The primary school fulfils a fundamental educational mandate. It has to provide its pupils with basic knowledge and skills and to prepare them for the following stages of their education. Our bilingual primary school on the Rüsselsheim Campus also realises an agreement of the EU heads of state and government from 2002, which stipulates that all children in the European Union should have the opportunity to learn other languages alongside their mother tongue at an early age.

Early encouragement of multilingualism promotes the young children’s cognitive abilities and ultimately also their personality development. Our educational philosophy is therefore “naturally bilingual!” Our bilingual primary school operates as an all-day school. Lessons begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at 3:00 p.m. The school week consists of 30 lesson periods of 40 minutes each.

The proportion of lessons taught in English in Years 1 and 2 is around 44%, rising to around 50% in Years 3 and 4. Tuition follows the recognised immersion method. For this reason, only native speakers of the two languages are employed. Furthermore, the school offers taster classes in Spanish and French.

The bilingual primary school bases its methodological and didactic approach on Montessori principles. Years 1 and 2 are accommodated in the school building at Johann-Sebastian-Bach-Str. 63. Together these years form a pedagogical and social unit.
