Financial assistance for children in day-care

The non-profit association Europa-Schule Dr. Obermayr e. V. and all its affiliated children’s day-care centres award up to 15% of their places at reduced rates to children whose parents are unable to pay the standard day-care fees regularly because they have lower incomes. This relates to the facilities that are not included in the state subsidy programme pursuant to section 32c of the Hessian Child and Youth Welfare Code (HKJGB). At present these are the facilities in Wiesbaden and Schwalbach a. Ts.

The above does not apply in cases where the association and the respective municipality have agreed that their facilities will charge the same fees.

What financial assistance covers:

The annual fee for childcare is EUR 720; the supervision fee due monthly is therefore EUR 60. The reduced fee applies to the supervision itself during the contractually agreed times, within the framework of Monday to Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.). It does not cover lunch or toiletries, etc., which the parents would normally buy, such as nappies.

The costs of food and other consumables may be eligible for subsidies. You will need to apply to the social services office in the municipality where you are resident.

In the nurseries, the costs of consumables also cover all toiletries and nappies.

The enrolment fee due upon conclusion of the contract is reduced from EUR 260 to EUR 60.

The intention is to give all children the opportunity to attend day-care, irrespective of their parents’/guardians’ income.

Requirements for financial assistance:

  • An application for financial assistance (form). The application must be accompanied by the following documents: the parents’/guardians’ income tax return for the previous calendar year, indicating the amount of disposable income
  • A description by the parents of the special income situation in case the income tax return does not provide sufficient information (e.g. special circumstances such as debt, unemployment, special financial obligations)

Parents/guardians are eligible if their monthly net disposable income is less than EUR 2,200.

Persons receiving financial childcare benefit under the German Social Code (SGB) have to undergo an individual review to determine whether they need additional financial assistance.

Financial assistance is initially approved for at least two years, after which it may be approved for additional periods of one year if the requirements continue to be satisfied.

Applications must be submitted to the association’s legal representative, marked “Confidential”.
