Bilingual grammar school G9

Support as required

The G9 grammar school is the ideal option for many children after primary school. The main arguments are that pupils can more easily balance school and leisure, have more time for learning and are under less pressure.

The children receive support as required, they have time to practise, and the school day is not too long. The supplementary G9 option makes it easier for pupils without a recommendation to attend grammar school from their primary school to transition to a grammar school. The parents no longer have to decide during Year 5 whether their child will attend a secondary modern school.

The possibility of switching between G8 and G9, or between G9 and secondary modern schooling, which has to be decided at the end of Year 6, helps to relieve pressure at school and optimise school planning. Alongside normal lessons, the timetable includes subject-based free-choice learning periods. During these sessions a subject teacher is present and pupils do their homework or school tasks independently. The subject-based free-choice periods of 45 minutes create a rhythm for the day’s programme. The children have lunch together at 12:05 p.m., which is followed by coaching, special-interest groups and organised leisure activities from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. to complete the academic school programme.
