Bilingual primary school with all-day activities

Practical multilingualism

The bilingual primary school on the Neuhof Campus fulfils a fundamental educational mandate. It has to provide its pupils with basic knowledge and skills and to prepare them for the following stages of their education. The school also realises an agreement between the EU heads of state and government from 2002, which stipulates that all children in the European Union should have the opportunity to learn other languages alongside their mother tongue at an early age.

The bilingual primary school operates as an all-day school. Lessons are held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The timetable consists of 33 lesson periods, each lasting 40 minutes. Lessons in English account for about 40 per cent of the total. The bilingual concept emphasises the teaching of English as the first foreign language in line with the recognised immersion method.

In addition to having more tuition in English, the timetable contains two periods per week and work time at school every day, a long lunch break and, after 3 p.m., organised extra-curricular activities. The bilingual primary school bases its methodological and didactic approach on Montessori principles. Children will find it easier to transition to the bilingual primary school if they have attended a kindergarten that uses English.
