Bilingual secondary modern school Years 5 to 10

Schooling with practical relevance

The bilingual secondary modern school on the Frankfurt Campus gives its pupils a general education of a high standard and enables them to pursue a focus in line with their abilities and preferences, so that after gaining the intermediate school-leaving certificate (mittlerer Abschluss), they can continue their education in vocational training or qualify for university entrance. In Year 6 pupils can start learning a second foreign language.

Lessons at the secondary modern school are designed for clarity and practical relevance to everyday life. At the same time, its educational programme ensures that pupils have access to ways of thinking and learning which are essential for successfully attending the grammar school sixth form, the technical college, the technical secondary school and the higher vocational school.

With more lessons delivered in the first foreign language (English) and the all-day programme of lessons and supporting activities, the school creates the ideal conditions for promoting young people’s individual development in line with their abilities and preferences, and for them to obtain qualifications for continuing their education.

The special feature of the secondary modern school is that the pupils acquire in-depth basic knowledge, practical skills and the ability to reflect on real-life problems. Attendance concludes with an examination that is standardised across the State of Hesse and leads to the intermediate school-leaving certificate. Children who demonstrate aptitude may transition to the grammar school sixth form or the technical college to study for the general university entrance qualification (allgemeine Hochschulreife), or to the technical secondary school / higher vocational school to study for the general entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences (allgemeine Fachhochschulreife).
