Children’s day-care centre

For children aged six months until they start school

We opened the Sonnenberg Day-care Centre in August 2015 at the rear of Wiesbaden’s Kurpark. The building is appealing particularly because it is large, transparent and full of light. The glass facades facing the park create a feeling of being in the park rather than beside it. The facility has places for around 148 children on five floors. It has four nursery groups each with a maximum of 12 children up to the age of three years. Children aged 3 years up to school age are cared for in three elementary groups and one preschool group with 25 children each.

The day-care facility follows the Montessori and Reggio educational principles. The focus is on developing children’s cognitive abilities, promoting social integration and providing age-appropriate support to help children through the day. The facility’s third certification from the Stiftung Kinder forschen (Little Scientists Foundation) in 2024 distinguishes it as “a place where children explore and discover”.

The premises

The rooms are generously proportioned, brightly coloured, and equipped with modern, age-appropriate materials. The entrance area with its “Piazza”, the bistro on the first floor and the free play area on the central roof section offer creative opportunities for structuring the day. We grow seasonal fruit and vegetables in raised garden beds on the rooftop terrace.

The sleep room for the nursery is located on the basement level. The kindergarten groups each have their own adjacent bathroom. The spacious premises also include various function rooms, a large movement room, a music room and a studio.

The protected outdoor area borders directly onto the north-eastern part of Wiesbaden’s Kurpark and the Löwenspielplatz adventure playground.

Multilingualism

Promoting natural multilingualism (German/English/Spanish) is part of our educational concept. English and (as required) Spanish native speakers are present in the groups, who work continuously with the children in line with the immersion method.

Educational concept

Our overall educational concept incorporates the Hessian Education Plan (BEP). We combine proven educational approaches with new developments and findings. We promote personality development and social and learning skills.

Our motivated team and our facility managers give your child the feeling of security necessary for discovering new things every day. We offer your child a safe environment for expanding and developing his/her abilities. Our top priorities are the welfare of your child and support for early childhood development. Our team supports and encourages the children’s all-round development in close consultation with their parents.

Opening hours

Monday to Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Holiday plan

The day-care facility remains closed on 25 working days in the year, all in the Hessian school holidays. You will find the exact dates in our holiday plan.
