More than lessons
Educational support
We provide extra courses to support pupils at their school if they have difficulties in reading, writing and arithmetic. Those with learning or knowledge deficits in German, mathematics or foreign languages receive additional tuition to help them catch up. These supporting courses are adapted for each school subject on the basis of individual support plans. We will be happy to meet you for a counselling session at our schools.
Support for gifted children
The concept for supporting gifted children in our kindergartens and schools consists of four elements:
- development of expertise in diagnosing special talent
- involvement of experts from outside the school environment/parental counselling
- individual support plans
- preparation for school/secondary school.
Our experienced nursery teachers observe the children at every stage of their development and use specific indicators to determine a child’s giftedness. The indicators include an unusually large vocabulary, language fluency, recognition of cause-and-effect relationships, searching for common and distinguishing features, and exceptional powers of observation. A child’s working and social behaviour can also help in determining giftedness. All these different indicators are used to draw up an observation sheet on which the individual supporting measures are based.
After detailed counselling with the parents, external partners carry out intelligence tests and prepare a precise diagnosis. The findings are then used to create a support plan which assists, activates and promotes the child’s special talents in groups, small groups and individual measures. Precise documentation of the supporting measures and their results provides the basis for refining the measures in consultation with the parents.
In order to give gifted children flexibility in starting school, the Obermayr facilities cooperate with primary schools in the region. Regular communication between the kindergarten and primary school, or between the primary school and the secondary school, is necessary to maintain the continuity of the support programme and facilitate a smooth transition to the next school.
The Hessian Ministry of Education has awarded the Obermayr Europa-Schule the schools’ seal of quality for individual support for gifted children.
